Product Description

Efrain Almeida's sculptures are imbued with a lyrical sense and subtly deal with issues related to body, sexuality and religion. This book covers more than twenty years of the artist's career, with a major focus on the Brands exhibition, held in 2007 at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo. Permeating regional and religious references of his experience of the Northeast of Brazil, the book highlights the importance of the images of nature, the mythological universe and popular culture in the creation of the artist.

The critical essay by Moacir dos Anjos, curator of the 29th São Paulo Biennial, proposes an interpretation that combines the autobiographical strength of the work with the artist's imagination. The technique of wood and fabric handicrafts and the use of the exhibition space as a formal element of the work itself is highlighted. With images of both the general views and also of minute details of his work, this bilingual edition allows a deep understanding of the work of one of the most important artists of the contemporary scene.
