Product Description

Fruit of his extensive photographic research, Luiz Braga's eponymous book brings together 80 images captured over more than two decades of pilgrimage through the Amazon region. Whether in processions, popular celebrations or in the simplicity of the caboclo's life, the photographer's gaze brings details and chromatic vibrations present in nowadays idyllic, urban scenes, abundant in the northern culture with which Braga has such intimacy.

The work also presents a list of more than 70 exhibitions held in Brazil and abroad, as well as testimonials from the artist himself. The organization of the edition was carried out by photography theorist Eder Chiodetto and design by visual artist Pinky Wainer.

Biography of the artist

Luiz Braga was born in Belém in 1956, where he lives and works. He studied architecture at the Federal University of Pará between 1975 and 1983. When he was a child he became interested in photography and began working as a professional in the mid-1970s. He made his first solo exhibition in 1979 at Theodoro Braga Gallery in Belém.

He did not stop dedicating himself to his authorial language, expressed both in black and white and in color. He won several important awards such as the Marc Ferrez Award in 1988 and Nikon Photo Contest International in 2000. He represented Brazil at the 53rd Venice Biennale. His photos are part of collections such as the São Paulo Museum of Art, the Portuguese Center of Photography, the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, among others.
